An update on protocol priorities going into 2025. We think a lot of interesting things are going to be built onchain soon. Farcaster should be the programmable and credibly neutral social network that brings users, developers and blockchains together. But what does this mean tangibly?

1. Frames will help devs bootstrap new ideasTest new ideas by putting them in a frame. It is fast to prototype and easy to get distribution to a wide, crypto friendly audience. Popular frames can be turned into full fledged apps or even companies over time. We're working on a new standard which will: - Make it easier to build interactive experiences
- Have wallet integrations to take onchain actions
- Make frames more discoverable and reusable@deodad@horsefacts.ethh@cassie and @blockheim are working on this, and it will ship by Dec 2024. https://warpcast.notion.site/App-Frames-Public-12a6a6c0c101805f84f0ca8bb27047d6?pvs=74

2. Snapchain will make it easier to build apps and infraApps are falling out of sync with each other as the network is getting bigger. This is a problem for infra providers like @neynar as well as apps like @super that use them. Snapchain solves this by eliminating errors and creating a path to reaching 10x scale or roughly 5000 TPS. If done right, it will be much easier to maintain and keep in sync. @sanjay@dynemyte@sds are working on this, and it will ship in Q1 2025.https://warpcast.notion.site/Snapchain-v2-Public-10e6a6c0c101807aadfacbcddda8ce4f

3. Smart wallet support for Farcaster accounts Smart wallets with passkeys will make crypto wallets much easier to use. We expect that most onchain accounts will use a smart contract standard soon. Farcaster standards for authenticating (sign in with farcaster) and connecting (app keys / signers) must be updated to work in a world where the app does not have access to the wallet's seed phrase, and the wallet and social app may not always be connected to each other. Design on this will start soon.

4. Better standards for developers We’ve biased towards moving quickly in search of growth, and acknowledge that this has sometimes made life difficult for developers. Farcaster needs to be a place where serious developers are willing to dedicate time and energy. We’re going to make sure that we: 1. Are thorough about getting community input on changes
2. Have fewer breaking changes
3. Ship better documentation and guidelines for new changes.

5. Retroactive developer grantsDevelopers building useful things may not always find it easy to raise money. It may be a public good that doesn't fit a venture model or an app that is a little ahead of its time. Warpcast is going to run another retroactive rewards program for Q4. The aim will be to fund developers who are building things that people are using, but are constrained by a lack of funding. More details on this soon.
